A dental implant is a prosthetic device that is designed to replace the root of a missing tooth. Dental implants are the most effective, comfortable, and realistic-looking dental replacement devices that have form and function almost indistinguishable from your natural tooth. At Eric J. Sadler, DDS & Associates, we perform dental implant surgery for you.

Why is a Dental Implant Procedure Performed?

Dental implants are surgically emplaced inside your jawbone to replace a tooth root. These implants are typically made of titanium, which is hypoallergenic and is resistant to corrosion. A dental implant surgery may be performed if you have:
•  One or more teeth missing.
•  Teeth that are severely decayed and need to be extracted.
•  You are unable or unwilling to wear dentures to restore your teeth.
•  Have a jawbone that is at risk of resorption at the site of a missing tooth.

Candidates for Dental Implants

You may be eligible for a dental implant surgery if you have:
•  A fully matured jaw.
•  You have relatively good oral health.
•  You do not smoke or drink alcohol excessively.
•  You are dedicated to good oral hygiene.
•  You are willing to commit several months for the implant procedure.
•  You do not have uncontrolled diabetes or immune disorders.
•  You do not have untreated hemophilia or other blood clotting disorders.
•  You are not undergoing radiation therapy to the head or neck region.

It should be noted that you can still have dental implant surgery if you can

Jawbone Grafting for Dental Implants

When a tooth is lost, the bone at that site becomes resorped into the body. Hence, the jawbone in that area becomes significantly less dense. This condition is counterproductive to the implant surgery since the bone is not strong enough to support the implant and the dental crown when chewing.

Hence, Eric J. Sadler, DDS and David Plummer, DDS can place a grafting material into the place, which has soft bone tissue to strengthen your jaw.

Bone grafting material can be sourced from another part of your body or from a human or animal donor. In addition, it can also be made in a lab from a synthetic, calcium-based material that promotes bone regeneration.

We will then make a small cut to expose the underlying bone in the jaw and pack it with the bone grafting material. The site will then be closed and we will wait for a few months for your jawbone to augment.
Once your jaw is ready, we can commence with the dental implant procedure.

What Does a Dental Implant Procedure Involve?

The surgery is a multi-step procedure that is performed over several months. At Eric J. Sadler, DDS & Associates, Eric J. Sadler, DDS and David Plummer, DDS will anesthetize the site of the missing tooth and make a small hole in the bone there.

We will then place the dental implant inside and allow the area to heal. The dental implant will take a few months to integrate with the jawbone and providing a steady and stable foundation for a crown, through the process of osseointegration.

Once the implant has fused with the jawbone, we will attach a connection called an abutment to the prosthetic and place a dental crown on top of it.

After the procedure, you can use your artificial tooth as normal.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants offer several benefits, including:
•  Giving a realistic and beautiful smile.
•  Offers ease in chewing.
•  Offer ease in speaking.
•  Prevents further bone deterioration of the jawbone.
•  Has a very high success rate and can last a lifetime.

Success Rate of Dental Implants

Dental implants have a very high success rate, which can vary depending on where the implant was placed. On average, though, dental implants have a success rate of 92% to 98%. With proper oral hygiene, good dietary and lifestyle habits, and routine dental checkups, your dental implant can last you for decades.
