No one wants to be missing teeth. There are many problems that missing teeth can cause. One of the top ones is that if you are missing teeth, it could lead to a shift in your other teeth. That will mess with your bite and the alignment of your teeth. Fortunately, here at Eric J. Sadler, DDS & Associates we are experts at finding solutions for missing teeth. One of those solutions is known as a dental bridge.
Bridging the Gap
With a bridge, we will bridge the gap in your smile. This will give you back the confidence that your missing teeth took away.
Unlike a dental implant, a bridge is not attached to your jaw. It will be next to your gums; it does not go into them.
Before we decide on whether or not a bridge would be right for you, we will examine your other teeth and also your gums. You need to have healthy gums. The teeth on either side of where the bridge will also need to be free of gum disease.
To attach a bridge, first will want to prepare the teeth on either side. Those will be capped for the bridge. The bridge will then go in between the two capped teeth.
A bridge can replace one tooth. It can also replace a series of teeth in a row. That makes it an ideal choice for someone who would otherwise need to have several implants side by side.
Your bridge will look and feel natural. People will have no idea that you have a bridge unless you tell them.
Taking care of your bridge is essential. The most important thing that you can do is to brush and floss daily. There is a special tool that you can use to help you to floss where the bridge is properly. You need to make sure that you take good care of your teeth and your gums so that you will not have a problem with bacteria or infection.
As long as you take care of your bridge, it should last you for a very long time. Your bridge will be strong, but that does not mean that you should take chances. If you bite your fingernails, you will need to stop. You will also need to be careful when it comes to biting hard objects such as candy and ice.
If you notice that there is a problem with your bridge, you need to contact us immediately. We will also check your bridge when you come in for your regular appointments. You will not want to miss an appointment since that is the only way that we can keep an eye on what is going on.
